Discovering Your True Self — Who You Really Are

Co-dependants often wonder who they are. They may wonder how others perceive them and not understand what is normal. They should be able to identify their own thoughts, feelings, or own actions separate from those of others, but they have learned from childhood to organize their thinking and behavior around someone else. A codependants recovery is often hindered because they tend to go into denial and externalize themselves. Codependants tend to be attuned to the feelings of others but unaware of their own. They deny their own wants but accommodate the needs of others. There are several steps to recovery and recovery can be accompanied by stress and anxiety with the temptation to slip back into your old habits.
