Today, Kathy is joined by Dr. Anna Tanner, and their topic is eating disorders in children and adolescents. This is such an important topic because younger and younger children are presenting with eating disorders, and this episode is rich in detailing the seriousness of these illnesses and how to treat eating disorders in children and adolescents.
Dr. Anna Tanner is a board-certified pediatrician with almost 20 years of experience providing care for children, adolescents, and young adults, and the Vice President of Medical Service at Veritas Collaborative.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Williams College, Dr. Tanner completed medical school and residency at Vanderbilt University. She then joined the faculty at Vanderbilt, working as a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine. Upon moving to Georgia, Dr. Tanner started the Teen Center at Gwinnett Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in 2000. As she saw increasing numbers of patients and families affected by eating disorders, she became involved in local advocacy and eating disorders education efforts.
In recognition of her work, Dr. Tanner has been appointed a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and holds the designation of Fellow in the Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine. She serves as Medical Liaison on the Board of the Atlanta Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, sits on the Advisory Council for the Eating Disorder Information Network (EDIN), and is also on the Clinical Advisory Committee for the Manna Fund.
Dr. Tanner has been listed as a “Top Doctor” by Atlanta magazine every year from 2013 to 2018 and was named a “Mom-Approved Doctor” by Atlanta Parent Magazine in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
