Episode 196: Rachel Cannon: Grief and Recovery

Today, Kathy is joined by Rachel Cannon, MS, and they have a conversation focusing on grief as a barrier to eating disorder recovery.

Rachel is the program manager for the residential practice of Reasons Eating Disorder Center in San Marino, California. She started out at Reasons as a therapist for inpatient and partial hospitalization in 2018.
Rachel completed her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 2011 from the University of Kansas where she focused on women and trauma issues. She worked in child
welfare, providing intensive family therapy focused on reuniting families, then worked in the women’s prison state system to create  Dialectical Behavioral Therapy programming for inmates aimed at reducing the recidivism through integrating coping skills.
Rachel has training in DBT and the Trauma Resiliency Model. She supplements her clinical background with a yoga teaching certification to support somatic expression with clients. She uses these modalities, along with Compassion Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to approach clientele with a holistic understanding of diverse needs.
Rachel lives in Los Angeles, CA with her partner and 5-Month old son.
