Episode 242: Dr. Alex: Thompson: Early Intervention in Female Athletes

Today, Kathy welcomes Dr. Alex Thompson and they have a conversation about the importance for early intervention for disordered eating and negative body image in female athletes.

Dr. Alex Thompson, a licensed psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), is the Assistant Director for Behavioral Health with Duke University Athletics Department. She graduated from Davidson College in 2010 with a degree in psychology. At Davidson, she earned All-Southern Conference honors as a member of the Wildcat basketball team while serving as a team captain in each of her final two seasons. In addition, Thompson was a four-year selection to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. She holds master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina Greensboro (Counseling; 2012) and the University of North Texas (Counseling Psychology; 2015), and completed her doctorate in 2018 (University of North Texas, Counseling Psychology). Her previous experience includes stints as a Sport Psychology Doctoral Student Consultant at the University of North Texas Athletics & Center for Sport Psychology and Performance Excellence (2012-16), Doctoral Psychology Intern at the N.C. State University Counseling Center (2017-18) and Sport Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellow with N.C. State University Sports Medicine (2018-19). In addition, Thompson is the founder and owner of Be Elite Clinical & Sport Psychology, PLLC.
