It’s extremely common within our society to use weight as an indicator of health. Weight is not now, nor has it ever been, an accurate indicator of health at all; but it is commonly treated as such, making “overweight” and “obese” people avoid getting the healthcare they need. This comes as no surprise when the individuals in question are treated as if the majority of their health problems stem from their weight entirely, or at least in part. The Health At Every Size Approach strives to discontinue the use of weight as an indicator of health, and put the focus back on becoming healthy WITHOUT weight loss being one’s first priority.
Key Takeaways:
- Diets don’t work…even in the form of a lifestyle change.
- We need to recognize that everybody is unique and accept others for who they are, not how they look.
- WE need to accept ourselves for who we are and what we look like; then we can accept others.
