Now you see it, Now you don’t: compulsive exercise in adolescents with an eating disorder

Compulsive exercise (CE) has been suggested as a factor in developing and maintaining eating disorders. Over three thousand teens, mostly girls, with a history of eating disorders were studied to research the frequency of CE and how it relates to psychiatric symptoms. Levels of CE were high in those teens suffering from eating disorders with bulimia nervous a being the most common condition associated with CE. Those with CE also had a more severe form of the disorder. CE cessation can be a part of remission of the disease.
